MSD successfully completed a tender exercise in the USA to appoint a single contractor across some 30 sites, generating significant savings. Stern worked with MSD to complete a similar project for 15 sites across Europe.

Catering operations in the UK, Holland, France, Belgium, Germany, Italy and Spain were included in the project. The project had to involve both the central US client and each of the individual site contacts, meaning that effective project management and communication was key.

The project resulted in a change to a single contractor across most of Europe, with a number of additional sites due to be added in due course. As with the USA, significant savings were generated. This was achieved whilst in most cases also improving quality of food and service. Additionally, this project could be used as an effective pilot for MSD to plan other pan-European initiatives.
